Dear Boys & Girls Clubs Families,

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent shelter-in-place orders, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie has been open for families of essential workers. Each day, members receive a hot breakfast, a hot lunch, and assistance with their at-home school work and e-learning activities.

Safety is a top concern for Boys & Girls Clubs’ staff members, who have been working diligently to create and implement proper health and safety protocols. Children and staff have their temperature checked before they enter the building. Dedicated staff clean and sanitize rooms and program supplies throughout the day, and regular handwashing and hand sanitizing occur for everyone.

“As much fun as it is to have 30 members bouncing around the Club, working, learning, and playing together, safely, it is not the same as the 175 we were seeing every day. We want nothing more than to open our doors widely to our Boys & Girls Clubs community,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie CEO, Jason Newman. “It is the Clubs’ responsibility to keep all of our members, their families, and our staff safe. In fact, that is our primary responsibility.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie has adopted the following continued services and summer program offerings:

  • Through May 18, 2020, we will remain open for up to 30 members of essential worker families at the Madison St. site. Non-essential employee families can opt-in up to 1 day per week of guardian recovery time. Pre-registration is required and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to families working in an essential field.
  • May 19, 2020 – May 31, Clubs will be closed for deep cleaning and disinfection of our Club property, and staff training and development
  • June 1, 2020, the highly anticipated summer program will begin. Enrollment will increase to a maximum of 50 at the Madison St. site. Pre-registration is required. Summer Slam, formerly AIM, will be open Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm, with continued safety and social distancing guidelines.
  • July 6, 2020, the summer program will continue, and maximum member enrollment will increase to 80 students with the possible opening of additional service sites.

Question regarding the Clubs’ current offerings of the summer program can be directed to: program@bgcmuncie.org or by calling 765.282.4461.

Sincerely,

Jason Newman

Dear Boys & Girls Clubs Families,

The news today that the State of Indiana has urged all Restaurants and Bars to close for in service dining reiterates the call for social distancing. The information on the ground has not changed, yet, and we will remain open under the same guidelines we did today. Namely, if you can keep your child home, safely, please do so. As of now, we will remain open from 7:30 – 5:15, limited to 40 students, with priority being given to families whose parents work in the medical field, fire department, police department or EMS.

All offerings will be held at the Madison Street Clubhouse. Please remember:

  1. If you can keep your child at home, please do so.
  2. If you or any member of your household is ill, has a cough or fever, or shortness of breath, please keep your child at home.
  3. Continue to cover your cough, wash your hands often and sanitize areas where people gather.

While our members are rotating through the day, we are cleaning and disinfecting program areas multiple times a day and will do a deep scrub after we close. The safety of our staff, volunteers, and members is our top priority.

We will continue to keep you informed as we get more information.

Sincerely,

Jason Newman

Dear Boys & Girls Clubs Families,

As mentioned yesterday (March 12), we want to remain open to our families who need us most. We will do so as long as we can remain open safely for our Staff, and volunteers, and our families who are unable to keep their children home safely. Pursuant to CDC suggestions, our offerings for the next two weeks (March 16th – March 27th) will, as of this moment, be from 7:30 – 5:15, and limited to 50 elementary school-aged members (at our Madison Street Clubhouse), and limited to 15 middle school-aged members (at our Roy C. Buley Clubhouse). Preregistration will be required.

Pending the potential closure of Muncie Community Schools and to comply with social distancing expectations, BGCM would like you to consider the following:

  1. If you can keep your child at home, please do so.
  2. If you or any member of your household is ill, has a cough or fever, or shortness of breath, please keep your child at home.
  3. Continue to cover your cough, wash your hands often and sanitize areas where people gather.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie will be here for those who need us most in the following ways:

  1. Elementary Students will be cared for at the Madison Street Unit (pending a well check), from 7:30am – 5:15pm M-F. We are limited to 50 students, with priority being given to families whose parents work in the medical field, fire department, police department or EMS.
  2. Middle School Students will be cared for at the Buley Center Unit (pending a well check) from 7:30am – 5:15pm M-F. We are limited to 15 students at this location with priority being given to families whose parents work in the medical field, fire department, police department or EMS.

We are closely following this situation, and are in contact with other child-serving, and health care agencies to minimize the transmission of this virus. Thank you for working with us to keep all of our staff, volunteers, and members safe.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at 765-282-4461, or via email at JNewman@BGCMuncie.Org.

Sincerely,

Jason Newman
