[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]In learning to give back, kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie prepared care packages for the homeless during a recent birthday party celebration. Care packages prepared for Muncie Mission residents for the winter season include wool socks and toiletry items.
Each month the Club hosts a birthday party for each kid celebrating a birthday that month. Prior to opening presents and enjoying birthday cake, the kids participate in an activity to learn about giving back. In November, the kids prepared care packages for military veterans and their families that included snacks and other personal items.
“Of our three priorities of Academics, Health and Character, this project zeroes in on the importance of Good Character and Citizenship,” said Micah Maxwell, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Club of Muncie. “We know that young people who volunteer or engage in service are more likely to graduate from high school and less likely to drop out than their peers who do not serve. We are working to instill these values at an early age.”
The Muncie Mission is a faith-based, not-for-profit agency that brings hope to the poor, needy and homeless in Muncie.
“These gifts from Boys & Girls Club kids will benefit our residents as they come in providing them with both comfort and dignity,” said Frank Baldwin, Executive Director of the Muncie Mission Ministries. “It is encouraging to see these young people caring about those in our city most in need and often forgotten.”
